Flying Sour: KC Flying Saucer Sour Week

As I am exploring more and more sours, I am finding that this style is moving up the ranks as a favorite. The tart pucker from a sour beer is very refreshing in the summer heat. It seems I am not alone. During the last week of July, KC Flying Saucer is holding a week of events featuring sour beers. They are starting off with a special Goose Island beer dinner featuring a series of their Belgian style beers.

Featured beers and food pairings for the evening include a first course consisting of Fleur Belgian Pale Ale alongside Moules Frites with an aioli trio; a second course offering of pork belly confit served with Matilda Belgian Pale Ale; Sofie Belgian Farmhouse Ale and a fennel and orange salad for the third course; Pepe Nero Belgian farmhouse ale with chilled Tunisian spicy tomato soup for the fourth pairing; sea scallops on a wilted spinach salad with a raspberry-ginger glaze served alongside Lolita Belgian Farmhouse Ale as the fifth course; and a 2009 Bourbon County barrel-aged Imperial Stout served with chocolate covered Belgian waffles with butterscotch and walnut ice cream for the final course of the night.

The rest of the week will feature Flemish Red and Oud Bruin styles and beers from Cantillon, Jolly Pumpkin. If you have never tried a sour beer this would be a great way to introduce yourself to the styles. Here is the list of beers offered:
