Schlafly to Start Brewing in Tennessee

Just as Boulevard announces plans to expand their production facility, Schlafly announces they have made a deal to brew additional beer in Tennessee.  For a few years now Schlafly has been brewing at full capacity at their Bottleworks brewery.  They have been looking into different ways to increase production to meet local demand and even expanding into other markets.  Schlafly announced on their blog that they have worked out a deal with Blackstone Brewery out of Nashville, TN.

From the Schlafly blog:
We’re now happy to announce that we have a long term agreement with Kent and Stephanie (Blackstone owners) to expand production of Schlafly Beer at their new Brewery in Nashville. This partnership will allow for continued growth of Schlafly in Tennessee and the surrounding areas as well as free up some much needed capacity at Schlafly Bottleworks in St. Louis. It should come as no surprise that in some ways, this brewery mirrors the set up we have at Bottleworks. They have a beautiful 30 bbl brewhouse just as we do, fermentation vessels of the same design, and much of the same bottling equipment. They’ve really done a great job to get the Brewery built and now we’re helping them to complete the lab and a few other areas, including assisting with staff training.
The common thread between the two breweries is Dave Miller. Miller was the original head brewer at Schlafly in 1991. He later moved to Nashville to be the head brewer at Blackstone. A few years ago Blackstone constructed a 30 bbl brewhouse with bottling line, very similar to Schlafly's Bottleworks facility.  Last year the two breweries started working out a deal to brew Schlafly beer at the Blackstone location.  No word yet on how much Schlafly beer will be brewed there, but it is sure to help supply the demand for the Eastern half of Schlafly's market, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Mississippi.
