Guess what happens when a bunch of Boulevard brewers have a little free time and some extra space? They start throwing stuff together to concoct some experimental brews. These experimental beers are in very limited supply, maybe only a few kegs total. Sometimes they show up at a tasting or beer fest, but they usually stay at the brewery. Earlier this week The Wine & Cheese Place announced that one of those rare kegs made it out their way, Single Wide IPA fermented with Tank 7 yeast and dry hopped with Sorachi Ace Hops.
I knew I had to try some. I love Tank 7 and I am very fond of Single Wide, together they should be amazing. Sorachi Ace Hops were developed in Japan by Sapporo, and has a tart lemony profile. Single Wide IPA fermented with Tank 7 yeast and dry hopped with Sorachi Ace Hops is quite a mouthful, so I will call it Trailer 7.
I found out there were only about six kegs total of Trailer 7 which are on tap at Boulevard's Tasting Room. The Tasting Room is where brewery tours finish at. While I wouldn't mind taking another tour, it was unlikely I could tag along on such short notice. As a consolation I was invited it to have a taste.
Poured into a fluted tulip, the initial head is dense but airy. As it recedes tracers of lace slide down the glass. The body is a light amber with lemony yellow hues. There is a mild haze.
Smell is brightly tart citrus. Lots of lemons, but I get sour white grapes too. The Tank 7 yeast is more sour here than in Tank 7 itself. Taste has a dry pucker. Very tart, which is very refreshing for the hot humid days we have had in Kansas City lately. The taste does linger on like a Lemon Head.
If you are going on a Boulevard tour over the next week or so, do not pass this up. This is a delicious example of what happens when brewers are let loose.
