Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope everyone got to spend time with your special loved one. My special loved one knows the way to my heart is through a beer glass and got me a fine selection of beers to go into that beer glass. This year the bouquet of beers included a New Belgium Biere De Mars from the Lips of Faith series. The Lips of Faith series have a distinct screen printed bottle, and I'm starting to see these in more places, like my local Hy-Vee.
22 oz bottle poured into a Boulevard Smokestack fluted tulip. Mild white head that leaves trace lacing on the glass. Color is a hazy orange. Smell is a mixture of orange peel and spices. Ginger and with dusting of cinnamon. Taste has a burnt orange reduction. The finish has an oaky vanilla. The bottle says there is an "unidentified flying Brettanomyces" in it, but I don't detect any funk. That may come out with some aging, but this is good enough fresh. Mouthfeel is a little thin compared to the taste. That's a little contradicting but that's OK. Sometimes a little contradiction is good to spice up your life.
