Boulevard BBQ Hitting Shelves Today

Mark from Gomer's Midtown has announced that the new release of Boulevard's Bourbon Barrel Quad (BBQ) was just delivered today.

Here is my review of last year's batch. At the time it was believed BBQ would be a one-off, but I psyched Boulevard has brought it back.

750 ml corked bottle, #4359 of 10630 pored into my Boulevard Smokestack goblet. A tan head that recedes very quickly. Color is a slightly murky dark reddish brown. It's actually the color of real cherries. Has a nice glowing effect when held to the light.

Smell has an mild alcohol aroma, spices things up in the back of the sinuses. The wood and bourbon adds a little peppery kick and finishes with a subtle fruit sweetness. Taste is pretty spicy and boozy, but it is never overwhelming. I love it that there cherries are real, not any fake cherry syrup. All of the flavors compliment each other.

Mouthfeel is pretty full bodied and verges on syrupy, but the carbonation breaks it up and keeps everything moving. The carbonation, spices, and alcohol create a prickly texture. This is so balanced, so easy to sip, and very enjoyable.
