Artistic Interpretation of KC Beerfest

I braved the chill weather and went to the 3rd Annual Kansas City Beerfest. Located on the top level of the parking garage at the Legends shopping center, there was not much shelter from the cold winds. It wasn't even that windy, but with no wind breaks it was very noticeable. As I started to make my rounds, I was into my fourth sample when I realized I had forgotten my camera. Crap. Since there was no exiting the Fest, there was no point even trying to get a cheapo camera across the street. Oh well, I made the best of it.

Here is the parking garage. It seemed like a pretty good crowd. There was a cover band playing classic rock tunes. Very non-threatening, but didn't really add anything for me.

The one beer that stood out for me was Boulevard's Nut Sack Ale, a special version of the Nutcracker Ale winter warmer. Nut Sack is the saved dripping from the hop
sacks that are used to dry hop the Nutcracker. I've only had it one other time, at the brewery during the Smokestack release party a couple of years ago. An offering like this is what makes a beerfest special, getting to try something you can't normally get anywhere else.

For the most part the other beers offered were pretty basic stuff you could get anywhere. Who goes to a beerfest to sample Corona? There were a few beers that are available in Kansas, but for some reason not in Missouri. I really liked Ska Brewing canned ESB. Always great to see craft beer in a can.

Before I called it a day, I ran into some of KC's other bloggers. KC Hop Head sneaked up on me waiting in line for more Nut Sack. We had a deep philosophical conversation about the mouthfeel of Nut Sack. While we were deep in conversation, Chimpotle came by. It didn't take much convincing for him to suck down some Nut Sack. Paul A. Ner from KC Beer Blog spotted me in my bowler hat. Let it be known I'm a drinker with class.

The mascot for the Fest is Beerus Drinkerius, "An inventive species known for strident voices and an enlarged abdomen, commonly referred to as a beer gut." I think I found my missing link.
