I'm not an overly lucky guy. When others find a four leaf clover, I step in dog crap. It's been that way all my life. And that's OK, I should be used to it by now. But every once in a while I get caught off guard and it bums me out. Like tonight.
Every Wednesday at the Flying Saucer is Glass Night. You buy the beer, you get to take the glass home. This is a cool way to build your glass collection. Especially for some of the specialty glasses that are out there, tulips, flutes, goblets, chalices, weizens, etc. Something with more oomph than a shaker pint glass. Tonight was the night for Delirium Tremens tulip glass.
I went by right after work, around 5:00 pm, to confirm the time. Bartender says it starts at 7:00 pm. Great! That gives me time to go home, spend some time with the kids, go to a volunteer meeting at the school, and then make it back. By the time I find a place to park and walk in, it's a few minutes past 7, lets say 7:05. There's a good crowd, but it's not crowded. I figure I'm golden. I lean against a bar table and a server comes over quickly for my order.
"I would like a Delirium Tremens, please!" says I.
"I'm sorry, we just sold out of the glasses a few moments ago," says she.
Denied! Epic FAIL!
Not that I fault the Flying Saucer in any way. They organized a fantastic promotion that got people in for good beer. I only have myself to blame. My timing sucks. And it's not as if I can't go out to the interwebs to just buy a Delirium glass, it's that it would be so much cooler to get it from the bar.
So I ordered a Hop Stoopid, because I was feeling kind of stoopid. I drank that while pretending to be interested in the athletic event on the TV. I did get a Flying Saucer calendar as a consolation prize. And every month it marks every Wednesday as Glass Night.
That calendar is just creepy
ReplyDeleteI don't feel so bad about not being able to go then. But really, if it was the standard DT tulip, you can get that pretty much anywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the pink elephant tulip, although it's a bit fruity.
ReplyDeleteThe calendar IS creepy.
Chimpo - I took a closer look at it this morning, it is creepy. Do we really look like that?
ReplyDeleteWort Hog - But getting it at an event is so much cooler. I guess I'm sentimental
