Lemmy is God

"Oi, Monkey. Lemmy. Motörhead. You in?"

Hell yeah I'm in!  My best mate scored a couple of tickets to the show next week at the Midland.  Just like beer, a show is always better when it's free.  Opening is Nashville Pussy and Reverend Horton Heat.  An interesting line up to be sure.  I'm fans of the opening acts, but I would have never thought to put them all together.  But that's Motörhead.

Motörhead formed in England back in 1975 by bassist/singer Lemmy.  Motörhead's fast, hard, "Fuck you" attitude has earned them Icon status in the heavy metal community, and respect from the punk community.  I remember first getting a good look at Lemmy's face when Motörhead played Ace of Spades on an episode of the Young Ones.  He was a sawed-off runt, but so viscous I was immediately in awe.  Lemmy is a living breathing, throbbing, snorting Rock God of Bad-Ass.

To celebrate my Hawkwind-fall I opened a growler of Rogue Brewing Dead Guy Ale.  Dead Guy is Rogue's flagship beer and has been around KC for ages, but this is the first time I've seen a growler on the shelves.  It's great presentation with the glow-in-the-dark silkscreen label.  My wife included this with my haul of Birthday Beer.

Poured into my Dead Guy Ale pint glass. There is a mild white head standing a finger's width. While the initial head wasn't much, there is a tight formation of lacing on the glass. Color is a dark caramel with moderate clarity.

Smell is pretty heavy on the hops, which most Rogue beers are. Sweet caramel notes keep the hops from getting too harsh. The taste is also very hoppy, though it comes off more spicy than citrus or piney. I get raw brown sugar, ginger, and a dark toastiness from the malt.

Mouthfeel is mild compared to the boldness of the flavor, making it very drinkable. Carbonation is a little rough which enhances the hops bitterness. I split the growler with my wife, but I probably could have sessioned the whole thing.

How bad-ass is that?

In the case that you ever want to brew it.
